Royal Succession Rules: Change Proposed to Correct Gender Inequality

This is interesting (and apropos) news regarding proposed changes to the British Monarchy:

Royal succession – Equality and the monarchy: Proposed new rules would give daughters the same rights as sons (link via Economist)

It’s incredible that the Government is concerned about changing the sexist royal succession rules but condones the ongoing discrimination against those of us born before 1983 to British mothers!

  1. Well it’s official

Royal women to get equal rights
…agreement was reached today on historic constitutional changes to end gender discrimination in the rules of succession.

So there is to be gender equality for royal succession but the UK condones ageism and sexism for British citizenship by descent!

  2. Ants says:

Let’s not forget the inequality against children born to unmarried British fathers before 2006, who are denied ANY path to citizenship (even by registering or paying fees) because of age (born too early) and gender (the British parent is male and not female). A small group, easily ignored – but not as small as the royals!
